The
Sheriff's Court House, Edinburgh
The Sheriff's
Court House development in Edinburgh, which was judged the best
of its kind in Scotland by the Federation of Plastering and Drywall
Contractors, was one of the most ambitious contracts ever undertaken
by a plastering company.
Aagaard
Hanley made extensive use of the latest reinforcing techniques to
produce large ceiling cornices measuring more than one metre in
projection and 168 domed coffers - amongst the largest components
ever cast in gypsum. A translucent
plastic, malkron, was imaginatively
incorporated into some castings to allow natural light to passs
through, and the company also designed lighting schemes to compliment
the work.
The concept
was described as "ingenious" by the award judges, who
said the company's craftmanship was "precise and faultless".
Judiciary
Buildings, Salt Market, Glasgow
A specially
designed coffered ceiling cast in GRG sections. All castings were
made from a temporary workshop on site and the total ceiling was
in excess of three hundred square metres.
The ceiling
was awarded the Scottish Award for Quality in 1997.
